With dry conditions increasing the risk of wildfires, the Rights of Way Team are asking everyone using local footpaths, bridleways and other public rights of way to take extra care.

Please: Stay on designated paths and follow any local warnings or restrictions. Do not light fires or use disposable barbecues. Never drop cigarettes, matches or other items that could start a fire. Take all rubbish home with you - including glass. Keep dogs under control and be mindful of livestock and wildlife. Please keep away from straw bales and do not climb on, move or damage them. If you see smoke or a fire, move to a safe place and call 999. Do not attempt to tackle the fire yourself.

Parents & carers - please talk to children and young people about the consequences of deliberately starting fires. Setting fire to a straw bale or dry vegetation can have serious and potentially life-changing consequences. Wildfires can spread rapidly, particularly across dry grass, cropped fields and woodland. What may appear to be a harmless act or prank can quickly become a major emergency. Your care and consideration can help protect our countryside, wildlife, local residents and emergency services.
